When I was younger, I enjoyed football and karate and had success competing in both sports, even having trials with several professional clubs. Thai boxing was, and still is a favourite for keeping fit and I have even started dabbling in Brazilian Jujitsu. Back then, though, I was torn between fight training and football and it was whilst fight training in 2003 that I started weight training.

My association with USN is also a driver for me to succeed. I want to prove to them that their support is invaluable and that their supplements have played a major part in achieving the level of fitness and conditioning I need to compete and win. My favourite pre-workout combination is Gaktec and Leutec , it dramatically increases my strength; try it alongside Nitrox Voltage – it is a must ‘off season’, I can’t imagine my workouts without this combo, I love it!

I started training at an early age in Martial Arts and as I developed I began to focus more on Kickboxing. At the height of my kickboxing career I won a world title in South Africa and subsequently found it very difficult getting opponents. When the UFC was first shown to the world I regarded it as the epitome of a Martial Artist and the ultimate test of skill and physical ability, I was hooked. I went on to become the Cage Rage British Champion before being signed by the UFC.

Carly didn’t start training until she was 21 years old. Before this she was overweight and unhappy with the way she looked which lead to very low self esteem. Carly was always the fun/bubbly joker out of all my friends and had lots of male friends but never anything more. When partying with friends, she drank alcohol before going out to build her confidence up hated getting ready and looking in the mirror at my pudgy stomach, no nice clothes fitted!

I started riding mountain bikes with my dad and older brothers on a farm just outside of port Shepstone in KZN at the age of 10. I remember those first years as the most challenging of my career. I think the bikes I was on back then weighed more than me but it didn’t deter my enthusiasm. Instead I always wanted to ride further and faster by day and by night I was flipping through American mountain bike magazines dreaming of one day meeting my heroes that graced the pages.

I began bodybuilding at the age of 18. At first I just wanted something positive to occupy my mind as a lot of my friends at the time were into negative activities which I had no interest in getting involved with. Two years later I entered my first competition as a junior and won. After that I went to university to concentrate on getting an education and a Degree in nutrition.
